St Ives Day of Dance – Sunday 2nd June 2019

The historic town of St Ives was ringing with the stamp of clogs, clash of sticks, jingle of bells and whoops and hollers as Sutton Masque were joined by Coton Morris and Manor Mill Morris for a day of dancing around the town on Sunday 2nd June.

It was a very hot sunny day but it was a great chance to watch three different styles/traditions of Morris dancing all in the same place.

The action started around noon on The Waits, moved down to Cromwell’s Statue and the White Hart in Market Hill around lunchtime, and finished in style with a grand massed dance finale on The Quay late afternoon.

The afternoon ended with the Morris dancers being treated to a calm river cruise tour by the St Ives Electric Riverboat Company.

This was only the second St Ives Day of Dance but it looks like it will be a permanent fixture in the town’s calendar as all the dancing was very well
received by the visiting crowds and the residents of St Ives.
