Dancing the Sun up on May Day Morning

Well may day is here, and we danced at sun up!! Sutton Masque danced their first may day by dancing the sun rise at Stonea Camp a 500 BC hill fort in the Fens, a staggering 6 foot 5 inches above sea level making this the lowest hill fort in the country. So if it’s not a high tide we will happily dance the sun rise on this very special day every year! Happy May Day to you all!

We then went up the road for a lovely breakfast provided but Angela and Roger – thank you very much for your hospitality.

A lovely report on recent activities from our wonderful musician Alan.

Dear All

Sutton Masque’s 2019 UK Tour got off to a most auspicious start, coping with the pressures of one of our most demanding gigs, the Annual Winter Sutton Beer Festival.

Under the intense media scrutiny of the Sutton parish magazine, our dancers acquitted themselves morrisfully to the music of an augmented wall of sound, featuring our latest signing, melodeon virtuoso, Nicky Stockman.

After Sutton, the side felt that they could take Edinburgh in their stride. But it was felt necessary to hold a confidence building and bonding evening at the Cross Keys, Chatteris. Bonding was facilitated by ample appllications of Lacon’s ales.

Having definitely scored a convincing home win at Sutton, the side were well prepared to take on an away fixture – Edinburgh. Despite adverse weather – torrential rain, hail and blizzards, the side proved equal to the task, and were cheered on by a cosmopolitan audience.

A party of hardline Morris junkies from Paris were heard to say: ‘La danse folklorique de Sutton Masque est vraiment merde chaude! Ils sont les testicules du chien, n’est-ce pas?’

Who could wish for a higher accolade? Manchester awaits for our next gig of the Sutton Masque 2019 UK Tour.

Best wishes to all

Alan
