Ely Eel Day 2024

What better way to start a Saturday than following a giant Eel through the streets of Ely. The day started outside the cathedral where we  gathered alongside other morris sides, scouts and brownies and even a samba band. The event was to commemorate 50 years with City status.

The Eel lead us through the city back towards its roots of the river Ouse and Jubilee Gardens.

The atmosphere was amazing and the public were out en force to support the procession, the glorious sunshine was appreciated by all.

A quick lubrication stop at the beer stall for some members and then we were off back to the city centre.

We had the pleasure of sharing dance spots with Red Cuthbert, Cambridge Morris Men and Ely & Littleport Riot. Whilst dancing outside the cathedral with Ely & Littleport Riot our musicians joined forces and multiplied, this was a real treat.

Lunch was a treat, with music supplied by Erin and Barry Watson down in Jubilee Gardens. We then headed back up the hill to continue dancing around the city.

The day concluded with a mass dance including Barley Brigg and Letchworth morris, and all the other afore mentioned sides.

After clocking up over 16000 steps, we headed to The Draymans Son micro pub for a well earned beer and tunes session.

Many thanks to the organisers for putting in a fabulous day, filled with colour, music and dance.
